An Invitation to Take Your Place At the Table Get involved in making sure that action on climate change is part of the G8 and G20 meetings in Canada in June! Join people across the country in organizing your own At the Table dinner. 'At the Table' dinners are a great way to engage your MP and your friends in a discussion about the importance of climate change at these international meetings. The G8 and G20 have promised three key things in recent meetings and we need to make sure they translate into action, including: 1. Stopping subsidies to big oil companies 2. Money to support developing countries as they cope with climate change 3. Keeping global warming as far below 2 degrees celcius as possible Organize your own dinner and invite friends and your Member of Parliament to discuss climate change and the G8/G20. This can be a perfect way to celebrate Earth Day (and any day for that matter!). If your MP doesn't show, just print out a Flat Leader, and send the photo you take to your MP. Either way, let your MP know what you're doing, that you care about the issue, and will be watching Canada's performance this June. Also, be sure to send photos from your dinner to the At the Table campaign at photos@atthetable2010.org and us at info@climateactionnetwork.ca Fun At the Table Dinner materials like the placemat above are available for download here For more At the Table campaign actions, visit www.climateactionnetwork.ca/e/issues/at-the-table/ Featured Blog PJ Partington - April 19 The Pembina Institute Well folks, the numbers are in and it's a blow out! In 2008, Canada's emissions dropped 2.1 per cent from their all-time high of 750 million tonnes the year before. Fantastic news! And, if you believe last week's press release from Environment Minister Jim Prentice, we have mostly the federal government's clever policies to thank. Sounds great, but a few key details are missing from that picture. more Susan Casey-Lefkowitz - April 20 NRDC Today a letter went from 17 Members of the European Parliament to the European Commission in protest of tar sands oil. This is the second letter protesting tar sands oil coming from Parliamentarians in the past half year and it shows a growing concern that Europe not open its doors to this higher carbon intensity fuel. more You can read the MEP letter here. |
