The Climate Change Accountability Act Lives On!

Congratulations everyone, the Climate Change Accountability Act (Bill C-311) has been supported by all of the opposition parties and will move to a third reading within weeks! Not only that, but the Liberals have also put forward a solid motion of their own on climate change that was passed yesterday.

After years of e-mails, phone calls, and actions our hope to see this Bill become policy is within reach. The Climate Change Accountability Act includes the targets science tells us are needed to avoid run-away climate change, and represents a huge step forward for Canadian climate policy.

Yesterday Parlamentarians from all of the opposition parties showed that they understand that Canadians want strong action on climate change. It is our hope that the government will finally start listening and moving Canada in the right direction.

The passing of the Liberal climate change motion was also a highlight yesterday, as it includes many promising proposals that will help to restore Canada's reputation as a positive force in global climate action.

Now it is up to us to keep the pressure on by celebrating this victory and reminding our MPs that we need to see these two key items manifested in policy and meaningful short-term action.

If you urged your MP to support Bill C-311, it might be worth a quick thank you note telling them that you are looking forward to seeing this Bill pass through third reading and the Senate in the coming month.

Onwards and upwards,

Graham

Oil sands PR blitz anything but balanced

It's official: the unabashed oil sands PR blitz is in full swing. It's image, not impacts that industry is addressing, and that's a problem.
But wait: don't drink the Kool-Aid yet because the video's "balanced perspective" is not-so-balanced. Some of the most important issues to stakeholders are downplayed, misrepresented or ignored altogether. Lets set the record straight. more.
