Save Canada's Climate Legislation
Action Alert: Bill C-311
On Wednesday, April 14, Members of Parliament will take a final vote on the only piece of climate change legislation moving its way through the House of Commons: Bill C-311, The Climate Change Accountability Act. Climate Action Network Canada member organizations across the country support the bill, which sets strong targets on greenhouse gas reductions, among other things.
We need your support! The Conservatives have consistently voted against the bill. The Liberals, Bloc, and NDP have been in favour of it, but we don't know where the Liberals stand going into the final vote.
For more information, see Sierra Club Canada's backgrounder on Bill C-311.
Here is how you can help:
1. Phone or email Mr. Ignatieff, Prime Minister Harper, Minister Prentice, Mr. McGuinty, and your MP, and tell them:
I am calling to urge you and your parties to support the passage of Bill C-311, entitled An Act to ensure Canada assumes its responsibilities in preventing dangerous climate change (the “Climate Change Accountability Act”) when it is voted on in the house on Wednesday April 14th. more
2. Show your support, and join the Facebook group for this event.

Meet Conservation Council of New Brunswick
The Conservation Council is a founding member of the Canadian Climate Action Network. This New Brunswick-based environmental organization began advocating for climate action shortly after the 1988 Conference on the Changing Atmosphere held in Toronto. A stalwart of the Canadian environmental movement, the Conservation Council was founded in 1969 and was soon working collaboratively with sister organization from across Canada and in New England.
In a country where jurisdiction for environmental protection is shared between the federal and provincial governments, the Conservation Council firmly believes that to be effective environmental advocates in Canada requires collaboration among provincial and national environmental organizations. This is why it was among the six environmental organization which founded the Canadian Environmental Network, and why it participated in the formation of the Climate Action Network and has continued to be an active participant. It was the Conservation Council's current Executive Director, David Coon, who convinced his provincial government to engage the Conference of the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers in climate action, leading to the development of a bi-national climate action plan now being implemented by provincial and state plans from St. John's to Boston.
The Conservation Council is a Global 500 Laureate and a repeat recipient of the much coveted Lorne Green's Tip of the Hat Award. For more information about the Conservation Council visit www.conservationcouncil.ca
