For release March 3, 2010 Harper Government Misses Boat on Green Energy
Statement by Dave Martin, Greenpeace Policy Advisor Wednesday March 3, 2010 – The Harper government claims “Canada must keep step as the world races forward” but the world is leaving Canada behind in the race to establish a green energy economy. The Harper government fails to understand that the economy of the future will be powered by green energy. Canada’s international competition in countries such as the USA, Germany and China understand this fact very well. The current Canadian government is missing the boat on green energy. The Harper government will not score gold on the budget without a massive investment in green energy. The Throne Speech calls Canada a “clean energy superpower” – in reality Canada is a dirty energy superpower based on the world’s dirtiest oil from the tar sands. Fighting climate change goes hand in hand with promoting green energy – the Harper government is doing neither. -30- More information: Dave Martin, Policy Advisor, Greenpeace dave.martin[at]greenpeace.org
