Real Time Today Today

Climate change is not a 'sideshow'.
G8/G20 - Toronto 2010.

In June, the leaders of the world’s largest economies will gather at the G8 and the G20 in Canada. These summits are the first opportunity since the Copenhagen climate summit where leaders will gather to discuss climate change. Thus far Prime Minister Harper has rejected numerous high profile pleas and precedents to make climate change a central item on the agendas, ignoring the role that investments in the green economy and support for the world’s poor have achieving global economic security.

What we want:

Climate Change is not a ‘sideshow.’ In addition to ensuring climate change is on the agenda this year, Canada must:

  1. Join G7 countries in committing our fair share to help poor countries cope with climate change

  2. Have a plan to reduce emissions in line with what science tells us is needed to avoid dangerous climate change

  3. Stop subsidizing big oil and gas companies, especially in the tar sands, and ramp up investments in renewable energy
